We invite MSc graduates from any relevant discipline (biochemistry, biophysics, (physical) chemistry, theoretical physics, mathematics, statistics, (bio)informatics) and from any country who are interested in interdisciplinary research to apply. Please note that you need to have completed your Master’s degree by the time you start the QMB program, but not by the time of application. We also expect candidates to be proficient in English.

No, there is no tuition or other cost associated with participation in the QMB PhD Program.
QMB students receive a contract with the host lab according to the guidelines of public service (TVöD). This amounts to at least 1900,- Euro/month after taxes (federal, solidarity fee) and ensurances (health, retirement, unemployment )
No, financial support is independent of the candidate’s choice of QMB research group. Experience from previous work might increase the salery level, if relevant to the project.

No, an application photo is not required. It is thought to be helpful for a reviewer to associate a face with an application. However, it plays no role in the evaluation process.

No, you do not need to upload a CV. The CV will be generated through the questionnaire in the application tool.
Yes, so long as you will finish your degree by the time the QMB program starts.
Your referee of choice will be contacted automatically the moment you press the “save”-button at the bottom of the page. You will receive a notification once the referee has submitted a recommendation letter on your behalf.
Please pay particular attention to the spelling of the email address when providing information in the „Referee“- section.
Note that QMB will send reminder notifications directly to the referees.
No, we will not accept letters of recommendation submitted by applicants. QMB will ask the referees to submit their evaluation directly online through a link provided to them. They can quickly paste in their existing letters of recommendation; we also ask the referees to fill in a short evaluation form.
Yes, certified translations of your documents into English or German have to be provided. Please submit certified translations in addition to copies of your original documents.

You can edit, change uploads, and save your application as many times as you wish as long as you do not press the ‘save and submit’ button. However, once you have formally submitted your application you are no longer able to carry out any changes. Please contact the QMB office if you wish to upload additional documents.
No, only for a few exceptions. In order to find the best match possible between the candidate and advisor / co-advisor, we want the candidate to participate in the interview week in Munich. However, QBM will be covering the accommodation costs and reimburse the travel expenses for each invited candidate.
No, there is only one application round per year for the QMB PhD Program.
Yes, you may apply again. Note, however, that re-applications will only be considered if significant progress can be demonstrated.
